Political Activist Groups

The groups listed below are actively trying to affect change in the student loan industry by political action. You may or may not want to become involved. Stewart Education Services makes no recommendation about any of these organizations and has no affiliation with them. Please let us know if links are non-operational.

• FinAid!—The SmartStudent Guide to Financial Aid
  Website dedicated to helping students with financial aid and discharge options. Unlike many websites, they are not directly tied to any bank to try and sell you loans. Lots of good information.
• Forgive Student Loan Debt to Stimulate the Economy
  This is a political organization attempting to influence Congress to allow students to forgive some student loans as a way to stimulate the economy.
• Student Loan Justice
  This is an activist organization that seeks a major overhaul of the student loan business. Very active with media outreach. Michael Collinge, founder of Student Loan Justice, has written a well-researched book on the problems related to student loans. We highly recommend the book.
• The Project on Student Debt: An initiative of the Institute for College Access & Success
  Very good organization that keeps track of the changes in laws, programs, and political landscape concerning student loan debt.
